Veterans Administration
VISN 6 - MIRECC

No other strategic partnership was more important to the success CSSP enjoyed than that of the Veterans Administration (VA). In particular, Dr Harold Kudler, the Durham VA, Mid-Atlantic Veteran Integrated Services Network (VISN 6) and Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC) with its unique focus on deployment mental health. At https://www.mirecc.va.gov/visn6/ and the Clinical Core page (https://www.mirecc.va.gov/visn6/clinical/Clinical_Index.asp): show that they continue to emphasize the Clinical Core’s partnership with local, state and national agencies and systems of care to engage veterans and their families in an effort to provide assistance with post-deployment readjustment and access to health care which they describe as a  “No Wrong Door” public health approach which is at the core of what they developed in partnership with CSSP.

Vet Centers of North Carolina – all of whom participated to at least some degree in our CSSP community outreach – Moses Gloria of the Raleigh Vet Center being a shining example.

Harold Kudler, MD, in his role as Co-Director, Clinical Core, VISN 6 MIRECC, Clinical Lead, VISN 6 Rural Health Initiative, Associate Clinical Professor, Duke University Medical Center, then as Chief Consultant for Mental Health Issues, VA Central Office has been a tireless advocate not only for CSSP but for Servicemembers, Veterans and their Families.  His contributions are truly incalculable. He personally conducted hundreds of in-person trainings and created the content for many of our online courses.  He tirelessly worked to offer innovative solutions and further the goals of the VA and CSSP at the local, state, regional and national level.  Just a portion of his work on our behalf can be seen throughout the PUBLICATIONS page under the ABOUT tab.

Dr Kudler, because of his work in NC with CSSP and the Governor’s Focus on Service Members, Veterans, and their Families was specifically asked to lead an effort by the VA Central Office to help develop a nationwide series of VA Medical Center Community Summits designed to engage community leaders and programs directly with the VA in support of Veterans and their families.

Dr Kudler still chairs the Military and Veterans Committee of the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry (GAP) and the Service Members and Veterans Initiative of the American Psychoanalytic Association as a continuation of his efforts to advance the mission of CSSP.

Special Thanks as well to:

Kristy Straits-Troster, PhD, ABPP, as Co-Clinical Director, VISN 6 MIRECC
